Who We Are
The National Mall is comprised of 14 individual National Park Service units, many of which are classified as National Monuments or Memorials. Combined, these sites welcome over 36 million visitors each year to learn about and reflect on key moments in American history. Sharing stories of American presidents and influential leaders, honoring our country’s veterans, and reflecting on the toll of war and conflict, the monuments and memorials on the National Mall are opportunities to create new understandings, build connections, and make lasting memories.
What We Do
Volunteers supplement the work of National Park Service rangers at the major monuments and memorials on the National Mall. They provide services to welcome visitors from around the world, as well as help them plan their trip, and learn about the National Mall’s sites. At specific locations, there are specialized volunteer responsibilities, like taking rubbings of names at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and supporting line management and ticketing at the Washington Monument. Volunteers are an essential part of enriching the visitor experience and ensuring the National Mall remains a welcoming, informative, and engaging National Park.
